Gastronomy
The city of Aveiro is known for its rich gastronomic tradition, especially influenced by its proximity to the sea and the estuary.
Rich in fish and seafood, in addition to the fresh fish from our coast, the most notable dishes are cod, fried eel with escabeche sauce or stew, lamprey rice and various seafood dishes. You can't leave Aveiro without also trying the coastal shrimp and oysters.
For those who prefer meat, the region offers several excellent dishes, such as oven-roasted veal and goat or lamb chanfana , not forgetting the crispy and succulent suckling pig.
To accompany, in addition to the various wines from Bairrada, it also has the famous Sparkling Wine as a specialty.
Regional Sweets
In the confectionery you will find the famous Ovos Moles and derivatives (Egg Threads, Egg Chestnuts, Egg Lamprey,...), Barrigas de Freira , Ovar Sponge Cake , Raivas , Cavacas, Cinnamon Regueifa, Pastéis de Águeda , among others.
The American Cookie and the Sweet Tripas (currently with every type of filling you can imagine: soft eggs, chocolate, ice cream, ...) are also very famous.
